Haifa’s distinctive character as a city framed by the mountain and the sea offers a compelling foundation for innovative urban and architectural strategies. The dramatic topography and proximity to natural landscapes create a unique canvas for design interventions that strengthen the city’s identity and redefine its relationship with its environment. By bridging the divide between land and water, these interventions have the potential to establish vibrant public realms that harmonize the natural and urban fabric, fostering a stronger connection between the city and its residents.
In the Bat Galim neighborhood, we identified a remarkable opportunity to introduce a transformative urban intervention. By envisioning a new riverfront that integrates seamlessly into Haifa’s existing waterfront, this proposal reimagines the relationship between the city, its history, and its future. The design seeks to balance preservation and renewal, creating spaces that honor the neighborhood’s heritage while introducing contemporary urban typologies. The project emphasizes the activation of public spaces, promoting walkability, accessibility, and a sense of community. This intervention not only enhances Bat Galim’s significance within Haifa’s urban framework but also establishes it as a dynamic destination that embodies the city’s vision of sustainable and inclusive growth.
